The process begins with the pattern cutter. Working with different leather characteristics, the craftsman considers grain direction, stretch, thickness, natural markings, cutting efficiency, and the position of each component before cutting. Skiving is then used where required to control leather thickness and create clean, accurate component joins.

Lasting is one of the most important stages of shoemaking. The upper is carefully positioned and shaped over the last to establish the shoe's final form. The craftsman controls toe shape, heel position, vamp tension, topline, symmetry, and overall balance. The objective is to create a smooth and consistent shape while maintaining the intended fit of the last.

The Bottoming Specialist
The sole system connects the upper to the ground and directly influences flexibility, stability, weight, grip, and durability. Depending on the product, our craftsmen work with different sole constructions and materials, including leather and TPR-based systems. Attention is given to alignment, bonding, stitching where applicable, edge finishing, heel placement, and sole balance.

The Patina & Finishing Artisan
Finishing gives the shoe its final character. Our craftsmen carefully work on edges, leather surfaces, colour depth, burnishing, polishing, wax application, and final presentation. On selected footwear, hand-burnished finishing creates subtle variations in tone and depth that enhance the natural character of the leather.

Technical processes can be documented. Craftsmanship also depends on judgement. An experienced craftsman can recognise differences in leather stretch, moisture, thickness, tension, grain behaviour, symmetry, and surface response that may not be obvious from measurements alone.
