Shoemaking is an industry where experience matters. How much tension should be applied? Where should a particular piece of leather be positioned? How should a finish be developed? When is the leather finished—and when is it overworked? These are decisions where craftsmanship makes a difference.

Measure. Understand. Choose. Fit. Always select your size using the measurements of your larger foot.
Place paper on a hard flat surface. Stand naturally with full weight evenly distributed. Keep pencil straight up and down and trace carefully.

Measure from the furthest point of your heel to the furthest point of your longest toe (big toe or second toe). Record in millimetres (mm).
Example:
Left: 268 mm • Right: 271 mm
→ Use 271 mm (Larger foot)
Measure across the widest part of your foot (ball of the foot). Identifies if your foot is Narrow, Regular, or Wide.
Why Width Matters:
Two feet can have equal length but completely different volume and shape.
Compare your exact mm measurements against the SIBLING SHOE size conversion chart. Do not add arbitrary extra length.
Length alone does not determine a good fit. Width and instep volume explain why shoes can feel tight even when the length is technically correct.
The horizontal distance across the widest part of the ball of your foot.
The vertical volume over the arch between your toes and ankle.
If you have a high instep or wide foot, choose open-laced Derbys or adjustable lace-ups rather than rigid slip-on loafers.

Wear for 30–60 minutes indoors for the first few wears. Gradually increase duration. Never wear for a full day immediately.

Wear the intended socks. A suitable thickness reduces friction during early wear and cushions pressure points.

Natural walking bends the leather at anatomical flex points, allowing the upper to mold directly to your gait.
04 — Shoe Tree & Rest
Insert cedar shoe trees immediately after wear to absorb foot moisture, minimize deep creasing, and restore shape.

Use a soft horsehair brush to remove surface dust from the welt, creases, and upper before dirt settles into pores.
Use leather-specific cleaners sparingly on a soft cloth. Never saturate with water or harsh household detergents.
Condition every few weeks/months. Less is more—over-conditioning makes leather overly soft or greasy.
Shoe cream enriches color and depth; wax polish creates a lustrous high shine on firm heel and toe caps.

Protect Before You Wear. Suede and nubuck have a soft, velvety nap that requires water-repellent protection rather than wax creams.
Coats the fibres with a light barrier that reduces water absorption and staining without sealing or hardening the velvet nap.
Hold spray 20cm away in a ventilated area. Use light, continuous passes. Never saturate. Allow to dry, then brush the nap.
Place a tiny water drop on a hidden area. If it beads, protection is active. If it absorbs immediately, re-spray.

For SIBLING SHOE, the journey begins with leather. The selection of the hide is an important first step, with attention given to its grain, texture, strength, softness, and natural character. The right leather provides not only the appearance of the finished shoe but also influences how it feels, wears, and develops over time.
Once selected, the leather is carefully cut according to the shoe's pattern. The individual components are then assembled to create the upper. Stitching, edge preparation, and careful alignment gradually transform separate pieces of leather into a recognizable shoe.
